Could you briefly share your company’s history and what sets you apart in the pet industry?

“Moderna has been a leading manufacturer of innovative, high-quality plastic products for pets for decades. It is a third-generation family-owned and led business based in Belgium.”

How important is sustainability to your company, and what initiatives have you implemented to reduce environmental impact or contribute to social development projects?

“Moderna is inherently driven by sustainability.

Ongoing materials research has allowed us to increase the use of recycled materials in our products. In 2024, 40% of the raw materials we used consisted of recycled content. These materials are processed in a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility. Three years ago, we moved to a new location where we installed 6,153 solar panels, which generate 30% of our total energy consumption. The remaining 70% of our energy needs are met by purchasing only green energy. Additionally, we use a heat recovery system within our production facility to regulate the climate in our offices. Our modern facility not only enhances energy efficiency but also contributes to a positive and comfortable working environment. To support employee well-being, Moderna organizes various activities, such as workplace sports, and provides access to a padel court for all employees. This fosters a strong and engaged company culture.”

How are you addressing the growing demand for premium, sustainable, or personalised pet products?

“We continuously expand our product range with customizable and sustainable solutions. From ergonomic litter boxes to innovative feeding stations and sturdy carriers, we design products that are both functional, design led and long-lasting. Our modular designs offer endless personalization options with a wide range of colors and the ability to incorporate in-mould labels. This ensures pet owners can find the perfect solution for their furry friends.”

Which key international markets are you targeting for 2025, and what strategies are you employing to enter them?

“Moderna has a strong presence in Europe, North America, and Asia. Moving forward, we are focusing on further expanding in North America, Asia, and selected growth markets in Europe. Our strategy includes forming strategic partnerships with local distributors, optimizing logistics, and ensuring our products align with regional needs and preferences.”

Sustainability in the supply chain is an increasingly relevant topic—what practices have you implemented to reduce logistical impact?

“Since 2022, we have been collecting data that forms the basis of our sustainability report, including a detailed carbon footprint calculation. We found that our Scope 3 emissions are clearly responsible for the majority of our environmental impact. With detailed data, we keep track of the impact we have throughout the entire value chain of our products. By sourcing sustainable raw materials, using 100% green energy, transporting our products in compact ways, making 100% recyclable products… we strive to minimize our impact at every step of the value chain.”
